Letting the Gospel redefine our measures of success.

How will they hear?
And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent?

Anamnesis

It means "A LIVED MEMORY" or in a more common phrase, "faith in action". However, this is easier said than done. What does it mean to physically practice a belief?

This is bigger than avoiding the naughty list. The adventure of practicing a belief is more about action than avoidance. For example: Going to New York is not the same thing as avoiding Guatemala. Almost anyone can avoid something with little effort, but pursuing something is entirely different. To "LIVE A MEMORY" is to submit your mind, emotions, resources, and whole self to a truth.

Christians practice Anamnesis in the sacrament of communion, also called the Lord's Supper. In this sacrament Christ followers share bread and wine, as the gospel is received for spiritual nourishment and growth in grace. It is a physical action of a spiritual truth. It is usually accompanied with the phrase "Do this in remembrance of me."

That's the LIVED MEMORY! When a Christ follower receives communion, they look forward with hope as they remember what Christ has done. It is theology in motion. But this note is not about communion, it's about WORK.

Your work can be an ANAMNESIS!

Everything from vocation to vacation is driven by a narrative. Embracing that narrative can make the difference between fear and joy, between monotony and worship.
  • In the words of John Piper - "The soul is measured by its flights, some low and others high, the heart is known by its delights, and pleasures never lie."
Your work is not stuck in a holding pattern between heaven and earth. It's on a continuum between experience and ambition. The story of God's Kingdom is being written daily through our LIVING MEMORIES as we cut asphalt, change diapers, file expense reports, lose elections, and cure diseases.

Anamnesis happens when we submit our present circumstances (time, talent, and treasure) to a greater narrative. The greater the story, the greater our work will serve as a living memory. Looking forward with assurance from the past, lived in the present. Anamnesis converts our daily endeavors from minutia into spiritual offerings of joy.

BONUS: this applies in life's valleys and vistas

Last Week & Thursday

Last week (12-10-25) we hosted a lunch in Birmingham on Work, Faith and Anxiety. It is another step forward in our strategic goal to build a two-way bridge between Christian community and the Marketplace.

While we share practical tips on navigating work, faith, and anxiety, the real goal is to share the power of the gospel.

We will host one more lunch this Thursday in Roswell. It is super tricky to gather folks one week before Christmas, but the value of holding another gathering in 2025 will help set the stage for 2026.

We still have a few seats open, If you are in the Roswell area on December 18th you are welcome to join. You can view the event here. Nexus - Roswell — New Vertical

As a community pastor, I consider it a gift to walk with friends through some of life's challenging moments. Their stories cannot be shared here, but their burdens often exist without congregational support.

The men and women in this photo represent those in every community. They have pain, loss and the cares of a broken world. Healthy communities come from healthy businesses. Healthy businesses come from healthy leaders.

New Vertical seeks to extend the local Churches reach into the marketplace.
Using social media enriches our community engagement by providing layers of content and resources. The larger goal is to build a two-way bridge between the Church and the Marketplace.

Join the Team

Our ability to proclaim Christ in unreached areas of the Marketplace depends on the support of others.

Your one-time or monthly support equips Marketplace Ministry to proclaim Christ to community leaders beyond the reach of the local Church.

The goal is to build a network of chaplains that engage a broad range of communities.
  • A monthly gift of $200 helps cover the expenses of a coworking collaborative. Fostering a zero-barrier connection to the gospel.
  • A monthly gift of $50 helps provide study bibles to participants.
Please prayerfully consider making a year-end contribution here

Prayer Request

For those who follow our progress, you will recall that last summer we made a strategic shift from individuals to groups. This placed us on a positive trajectory of evangelism and discipleship in multiple cities. Unfortunately, it impacted our financial need. This phase of launching a ministry means we need to raise support while simultaneously building the ministry infrastructure. So please pray for:
  • Favor as we engage coworking systems
  • For sustainable financial pathways.
  • Increase in monthly and onetime partners.
  • for more churches/'chaplains to partner with these collaboratives so we can continue launching new groups through the Coworking system.
We are grateful to the PRCC (The multi-denominational chaplaincy arm of the PCA), our AMAZING Board of Directors, and the many friends who support us. We cannot do it without you.

Grateful

We know support comes in many forms. We cannot pioneer marketplace ministry without you. Thank you for your support. You are loved and we are grateful.
His Grace is enough.
